Calling all freedivers! Spiny Lobster season starts October 3rd and to celebrate we are holding our 10th Annual URT LOB OFF: Freedive Lobster grab competition on Saturday October 8th at 2PM.
We will be diving at Garbage Beach in San Diego's Point Loma reef structures. We will meet at the staircase where Sunset Blvd turns East to Ladera St.
The rules are simple. Divers will be given 1.5 hours to see how many legal bugs they can fumigate off the ocean floor. Said bugs will then be taken to the judging table for measuring and weighing. Prizes will be given to the top three divers that catch the most legal lobsters and the BIG BUG award will go to the diver that catches the lobster that weighs the most.
Fishing License and Lobster Cards are required to compete and must be shown in at the sign in table. We can nearly guarantee that Fish and Wildlife will be there checking to see if the lobster you bring up are indeed legal. So if in doubt, throw it back out.
Sign in is at 1:30PM. Competition starts at 2:00PM. Competition ends at 3:30PM. Winners announced at 4PM.
All contestants will receive an official event t shirt.
