Here's a call out to all freedivers among us! Lobster season is almost here and to celebrate the season opening we are holding our 15th Annual URT LOB OFF on Saturday October 10th at 2:30PM.
The event is located at Garbage Beach in San Diego's Point Loma reef structures. We will meet at the staircase where Sunset Blvd turns East to Ladera St.
Thankfully for this event the rules are very simple: Divers have 1.5 hours to see how many legal bugs they can catch in the Point Loma reefs. These legal bugs will then be taken to the judging table for measuring and weighing. Prizes will be given to the top three divers that catch the most legal lobsters and the BIG BUG award will go to the diver that catches the lobster that weighs the most.
Fishing License and Lobster Cards are required to compete and must be shown in at the sign in table. We can nearly guarantee that Fish and Wildlife will be there checking to see if the lobster you bring up are indeed legal. So if in doubt, throw it back out. We don't want to see anyone's day ruined with a fine.
Sign in is at 1:45PM. Competition starts at 2:30PM. Competition ends at 4:00PM. Winners will be announced shortly after the weigh-in.
All contestants will receive an official event shirt as well. We look forward to seeing everyone out for the lobster season opener!
