2025 URT DIG RECAP: Mother's Day Action

This last Sunday, also Mother's Day, we held the 8th Annual URT DIG here in Coronado.  The DIG was the final event from our LIVE HEAVY Weekend honoring the life of friend and fallen Navy SEAL Charlie Keating.  All proceeds went directly to his family's foundation, the C4 Foundation, which helps support Navy SEAL families.  We were also stoked to have such a big turnout from all our MOMS who we love so much!

The DIG is just what it sounds like, a hole digging competition!  Diggers have 10 minutes to dig the deepest hole they can.  This year we had around 60 contestants show up at Coronado Dog Beach to get their dig on!  We also had friend Jonathan Wayne Freeman as the MC and he was able to highlight the action in real time.

These diggers competed in 4 divisions starting with the kids PLASTIC Shovel Division.  We saw an intense competition from both the girls and the boys and the results show how close it was!  When the clock finally ticked to zero and the sand settled we were left with the following gold, silver, and bronze medalists:

Girls:

  1. Maddie Worthington 1' 9"
  2. Maryn Snelgrove 1' 8"
  3. Rosalie McManus 1' 7"

Boys:

  1. Rowan Degree 2' 4"
  2. Vance Hansen 2' 0"
  3. Milton Zajac 1' 11"

After a short break to fill in the deep holes from the kids we were ready for the main event, the METAL Division for adults.  Same rules as the kids, but a bit more intensity with the upgrade to metal shovels.  We saw a variety of shovel sizes and digging techniques to achieve the deepest hole.  The last minute proved to be make or break for our competitors as some pushed through to the next level of the earth.  The following men and women came out victoriously:

Women:

  1. Jennifer Niebal 3' 8.5"
  2. Ala Urtnowski 3' 7"
  3. Cindy Siegal 3' 4"
  4. Erin Rambis 3' 3.5"
  5. Louise Nutter 3' 3"

Men:

  1. Wyatt Helton 5' 6"
  2. Nick Merril 5' 4"
  3. Rawley Davis 5' 1.5"
  4. Jake Schmitt 5' 1"
  5. Augie Navarro 4' 10"
  6. Ryan King 4' 8"
  7. Cole Webster 4' 7.5"
  8. Time Speer 4' 7"
  9. Ian Yoon 4' 6.5"
  10. Jason Goyanko 4' 6"

After the heat of the METAL division, we reached our grand finale, the HANDS and PAWS division.  This is the PURIST division as all you or your pup need is your mitts and witts.  This year featured 10 dogs including two of our URT Shop dogs who we love so much.  We gave our competitors a bit of a relief this year and lowered the amount of time to 6 minutes.  When the whistle blew and the clock started the competitors dropped to all fours and started scratching and clawing the earth like there was no tomorrow.  Our final event concluded with the sound of a tired whistle and the top 3 humans and dogs were crowned.

Hands:

  1. Peter Zajac 1' 5"
  2. John Aquino 1' 3.5"
  3. Kat Reyes 1' 3"

Paws:

  1. Reya 1' 2"
  2. Wilson 1' 0"
  3. Luna 11"

Also, we wanted to thank our great sponsor Pelican for donating the awesome prizes for this years winners.  We appreciate all our moms for coming out this year to celebrate Mother's Day with us!
